The body is an interconnected system. Disturbances in one part of the body can affect the function in another.

Osteopathy is based on a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of the body.

It is aimed at restoring and improving blood and lymph circulation, biomechanics and mobility of the body, and nervous system regulation.

What will your appointment look like?

1

Initial discussion

At the beginning of the appointment we will have an initial discussion. I will ask you questions about your medical history, current symptoms, injuries, lifestyle, and any specific concerns you have. This will help me understand your condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

2

Physical examination

I will assess your posture, range of motion and evaluate the mobility and alignment of different joints and tissues in your body. I will also palpate various areas to identify tenderness, muscle tightness, or structural abnormalities. I will share with you my findings and proceed with the treatment.

3

Treatment

The techniques I use are gentle, safe, precise and efficient. During the treatment I will explain to you what is happening with your body and how we will deal with it.

Mutual understanding with my patients is crucial for me. That’s why I always explain everything clearly and in detail.

Important to note: the exact procedures and techniques used during an osteopathic appointment may vary and depend on the specific needs of each individual patient. No two appointments are exactly the same. I tailor the treatment to your condition and goals, promoting a comprehensive approach to your health.

Recommendations

I provide my patients with recommendations and advice to support the recovery. This could include exercises, postural guidance, or ergonomic adjustments.

The key principles of osteopathy

The body functions as a single unit.

The body functions as a whole, not just as a collection of individual parts.

I consider the body's systems in relation to one another when diagnosing and treating conditions. I treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Structure and function are interrelated.

The way the body's parts are aligned (structure) affects how they function, and vice versa.

For example, a misaligned spine can affect nerve function.

The body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms.

The body has built-in mechanisms that can regulate and maintain health.

Osteopathic techniques aim to support and stimulate this process.

The body has the capacity to defend and repair itself.

My goal is to find and treat the actual root cause of my patients’ problems rather than merely fighting the symptoms.

My path in osteopathy

After 8 years of full-time studying I obtained my degree in osteopathy. I graduated from The Pavlov First State Medical University of St.-Petersburg and North-Western State Medical University (Osteopathic residency/St. Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy) with a degree of physician (MD, medical doctor) and doctor of osteopathy (D.O.).‍

In 2021, I relocated to The Netherlands and successfully completed the recognition process for my osteopathic diploma, obtaining registration in the Dutch Register for Osteopathy (NRO, Nederlands Register voor Osteopathie).

After the graduation I continuously keep deepening my knowledge through postgraduate programs and seminars. This fundamental education provides me with sufficient expertise to сarry out my work with newborns, infants, pregnant women and professional athletes.

What do osteopathic techniques look like?

arrow minimal down

The treatment is always individualised.

There are no scripts or protocols in the osteopathic treatment. They can’t exist because each body is unique and carries its own story and physical problems.

As an osteopath, I underwent comprehensive training to ensure understanding the body's anatomy and physiology and can provide treatment safely. All of the osteopathic techniques I use are tailored to the individual patient's needs, ensuring that the techniques used are appropriate and safe for them.

I regularly undertake ongoing training and professional development, ensuring that I stay updated on the latest research and most efficient approaches.

Osteopathic techniques are very gentle, but precise and efficient, because they are targeted to a specific area or structure. It’s like tuning up a musical instrument and I admire this “conversation” with the body.

How many appointments do I need?

arrow minimal down

The number of osteopathic appointments a person needs varies based on:

  1. The condition: chronic conditions might need more sessions than acute issues.
  2. The severity: more severe cases typically require more treatments.
  3. The response to the treatment: it can differ based on numerous individual factors like co-existing conditions, anatomical peculiarities, features of the lifestyle etc.
  4. The treatment Goals: maintenance vs. resolution can differ in frequency.

Some examples:

Acute Conditions: conditions that have a sudden onset, like a muscle strain, or a sudden minor back pain. Typically, acute conditions may require 1-3 treatments with an interval of 10 to 45 days.

Chronic Conditions:  long-standing problems that may have been present for months or even years, like chronic back pain, repetitive strain injuries, chronic headaches. Chronic conditions usually require more treatments over a longer period of time. The number of treatments can vary widely, from a few to some over several months. Usually it requires 3-5 treatments with an interval of 14 to 60 days in between. The frequency of treatments often starts higher and then reduces as the condition improves.

Maintenance or preventative treatment: some people like to continue seeing an osteopath even after their initial complaint was resolved. This is to maintain good well-being and high quality of life, prevent recurrence of a condition, or address minor issues before they become major ones. The frequency of these visits is highly variable. Some people may choose to see an osteopath every 2 months, while others might need only 1 preventive appointment a year.

In all cases, I re-evaluate the patient at each appointment and adjust the treatment plan based on the patient's current needs. It is also essential for the patient to communicate their feelings, concerns, and any changes they notice to their osteopath. Therefore, I always start my follow-up appointments with questions as well as an initial one, specifically asking about every complaint of my patient and if there were any new injuries or specific life factors that could have made an input on their condition.
